Furniture retailer Courts has selected TNT Network Logistics to manage the whole of its inbound supply chain from Italy. The deal entails TNT storing and handling Courts’ leather upholstery range from its largest supplier in southern Italy.
Courts and TNT have worked together since May 2003 when the third-party multi-user logistics provider began storing flat-pack furniture through its Corby depot as an overflow for the retailer’s national distribution centre (NDC), which is also in Corby.
Commenting on the additional work, TNT Network Logistics managing director David Bermingham says: “Courts’ sales of leather upholstery saw significant growth last year and they initially asked us to look at just a four-week short-term storage arrangement for upholstery. But now they want us to manage the whole inbound supply chain from Italy.”
TNT Network Logistics is developing an IT solution to ensure total visibility throughout the supply chain as the goods are shipped from factories in Italy, into the Corby depot, and then delivered on a fixed weekly booking direct into Courts’ stores nationwide.
