GGP Mountfield has contracted
Wincanton to distribute its gardening equipment. As part of the contract, Wincanton is managing GGP’s inbound supply chain from Italy as well as warehousing and delivering the company’s lawnmowers and shredders to B&Q stores nationwide.
Under Wincanton’s management, the 400 containers brought into the UK from Italy every year will be transported with the product loaded on slip sheets rather than traditional pallets. Wincanton says this process allows for a reduction in the time needed to unload the products and requires less space in the container, making it possible to transport more goods in the same number of containers.
Based at Wincanton’s shared-user warehouse in Leeds, the contract also includes stock build.
GGP managing director Duncan Martin comments: “GGP Mountfield needed a supply chain specialist with existing expertise in the gardening product market and an understanding of its seasonal fluctuations.”
