Kalon Decorative Products is midway through replacing its entire fleet of 3.5 tonne van with Iveco Daily City Trucks. More than 80 Dailys went into operation at Kalon during 2003, and similar numbers are expected to be ordered during 2004 and 2005.
The vehicles are replacing Renault Masters as part of Kalon’s new purchasing policy. Mike Tuddenham, logistics controller at Kalon, explains: “Our existing van fleet was not meeting our performance expectations and so we needed to revise our plans. We looked at several different options but settled on Iveco based on our experience of its heavy truck products…”
He continues: “One of the key concerns with the Masters was that depending on the vehicles’ location, they could be serviced either by a car or a truck dealer. With the Daily, no matter which of our 150 branches the vehicle is based at, it is looked after by and Iveco truck specialist – and, in our opinion, truck dealers are much stronger at supporting vans than car dealers.”
The Dailys are being used to deliver a variety of decorating products ranging from pallets of paints to single tins.
