Davis Derby’s TruckLOG system has recently been specified for a fleet of nine new trucks at the Sony distribution Centre in Thatcham, Berkshire. The TruckLOG system has been in place on the existing fleet of about 45 trucks for five years. Sony is currently planning to implement a new building access control technology. Introducing the SmartCard system on the trucks eliminates the need for employees to remember a pin code, and make the system even more user-friendly.
The current fleet at the 23,250sq m warehouse includes counterbalance trucks, very narrow aisle trucks, reach trucks and powered pallet trucks.
Sony’s engineering supervisor, Brian Gill, is pleased with the system: “The TruckLOG system was put on trial for an 18-month period before commission and proved itself to be highly successful. The system not only offers us driver accountability and improved health and safety but reports the facts of fleet use. The reports generated by the system have enabled us to condense our fleet to make it more efficient, this would not have been possible on personnel perception alone. Driver login, identifying problem areas, efficiency facts and resource planning are the main benefits Sony required from the TruckLOG system.”
