Third-party logistics provider New Wave Logistics (NWL) is undertaking storage and distribution for Suzuki GB, which is best known for its high performance motorbikes but also supplies a range of automotive products covering the marine and off-road sectors. The new £4.5M, three-year contract is part of Suzuki’s strategy to improve deliveries to its 300-strong dealers as well as reduce costs.
NWL, part of the NYK Logistics Group, is storing about 5,000 units in a dedicated 4,650sq m area of its Milton Keynes distribution centre. The company expects to handle more than 20,000 units a year, with motorbikes making up the bulk of the volume.
Orders, received via Suzuki’s bespoke Protrac electronic data interchange (EDI) system, are distributed by a fleet of Scania rigid and articulated vehicles throughout the UK, including Northern Ireland. The lorries are equipped with Kooi-aap vehicle-mounted forklift trucks for unloading – the motorbikes weigh up to 350kg and the all-terrain vehicles 500kg.
