The latest contract logistics rankings published by Transport Intelligence in its annual report, European Logistics Leaders 2005, show that UK provider Exel, which is subject to a takeover bid by Deutsche Post, remains the largest global provider for a further year. In terms of revenues Exel has extended its lead over second placed TNT Logistics and third placed Penske Logistics.
Exel’s increase in size was due primarily to its acquisition of UK rival Tibbett & Britten midway through the year which enabled it to grow significantly in both Europe and USA as well as to a lesser degree in Asia Pacific. The acquisition of Tibbett & Britten also enabled the company to claim the top spot in the European contract logistics market.
