Innovate Logistics has unveiled a £6M high-tech development of its storage and distribution centre in Dudley to help steel producer Corus provide faster and more accurate deliveries to its UK customers.
The investment covers a building extension, new handling equipment, locomotives, climate control and sophisticated computer systems which will make the operation the largest and most advanced rail-linked steel-handling terminal in the UK.
Innovate, the temperature controlled storage and distribution specialist, has worked in partnership with Corus since 1987 providing warehouse and logistics services at the Dudley site.
Stephen Dargavel, managing director of parent company Innovate Holdings, explains: “In addition to upgrading and extending the existing facility, we are installing the latest technology and communication systems to ensure a streamlined throughput. Getting things right is critical, especially in logistics and we believe the centre will set a new standard for distribution centres in the UK.”
