Allsports has confirmed more than 1,300 job losses and the closure of 92 stores. The sports-clothing and equipment retailer, went into administration last month and has been the victim of a vicious price war in the sports retail sector. BDO Stoy Hayward are Joint Administrators of Allsports and have announced that almost half of Allsports 300 head office and central warehouse staff members have been made redundant. A total of 1,173 full and part-time staff employed in Allsports outlets, out of a total headcount of 3,200 have been made redundant. BDO Stoy Haywards have confirmed 92 shops out of the total 264 would close immediately.
BDO were appointed joint administrators of Allsports Limited on September 26 2005 and Allsports (Retail) Limited and Allsports.co.uk Ltd on 26 September 2005. A spokesperson from BDO comments: “The redundancies and shop closures have been anticipated for some time and today’s announcement does not affect the hopes for a sale of the remaining business.”
