FTA & HSE launch new safety guides for vehicle use
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have teamed up to produce a best practice guide entitled ‘Preventing falls from vehicles.’ The guide is designed to give simple advice to help reduce many unseen risks, allowing personnel to stay safe while at work.
Each year between 60 and 70 people lose their lives and about 700 others suffer a major injury as a result of falling from a vehicle. Historically it is the biggest killer in the workplace and the second biggest cause of major injuries. The guidelines are intended to help The Health and Safety Commission meet their target of reducing injury rates relating to falls from height (across all industries) by 10% by 2010. These guidelines are intended to help duty holders in the transport industry control risks from work at height and to reduce this toll of death and injury.
