Mitsubishi is changing the way it does business in the UK involving a radical switch from a distributor-based operation to one that puts dealers in direct communication with the parent company’s European base at Almere in the Netherlands. As a result, with the introduction of high-speed online systems, dealers are now able to order trucks, parts and finance directly.
“We aim to be more immediately responsive to customers’ needs, to speed up distribution and to reduce costs by shortening the communication chain and eliminating all non-value-added processes,” said Terry Foreman, general manager of Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks UK.
Order processing can be done online. Dealers click on a range of product images and information, gradually narrowing the choice down in terms of specification. When they have chosen, they click to order the truck and are instantly given an order number.
There’s no need for re-entry of order details at the factory. Nor is there a need for a manual check of the chosen configuration’s validity – instead that’s done automatically by a “configurator”.
