The Chancellor, Gordon Brown, has announced the creation of a new Government/Industry taskforce to consider the recommendations of the Burns Freight taxes inquiry. The new joint group will comprise the Department for Transport (DfT), the Treasury and representatives of the Freight Transport Association (FTA), the Road Haulage Association (RHA) and the British Chambers of Commerce.
Reacting to the Chancellor’s statement James Hookham, FTA deputy chief executive said: “This is a constructive and welcome response by Government and we are pleased that we now have the chance to develop the recommendations raised in the Burns’ report. We will be making sure this is not just another talking shop but a collaborative effort with Government to develop solutions for industry.”
