Baylis Distribution has renewed its three-year contract with Discovery Foods, the family owned catering company that has a healthy annual turnover of £40m.
The new deal involves Baylis providing a total UK distribution service via a 3,000 pallet stockholding facility at its Wolverhampton site.
Baylis collects inbound stock from Discovery Foods manufacturing facility in Daventry via a stand trailer system. Although mainly full pallets are ordered and delivered, value added services include case picking to meet specific retailer requirements.
In the last 12 months volumes have increased by 25 per cent, with over 3.2 million cases shipped. Orders are received by an EDI (electronic data interchange) link with products despatched to major supermarkets, including Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury¹s, Morrisons, Waitrose, Somerfield and the Co-op, as well as specialist retailers.
Around 70 per cent of sales are through the major multiples with products also supplied to 3663 and Whitbread for the catering market.
Brian Ridegway, joint managing director of Discovery Foods said: “As a fast expanding business supplying quality products to a wide range of leading retailers we needed a logistics partner that could match our growth. Baylis provides a flexible, cost effective service to meet our needs and following the success of the last three years we had no hesitation about renewing the contract.”
