Volvo has added a new 360hp, Euro4-level engine to its D13A range. The engine, launched last September as a completely new 13-litre engine, had power levels of 400hp, 440hp, 480hp and 520hp at Euro 3 levels. Due to popular demand, a Euro 4 level 360hp has now been added to the range.
Aimed at the 32 tonne 8×4 construction market and lighter tractor units from 28-40 tonnes, the new 360hp option has been specially developed for use in the ever-popular FM range of vehicles.
Brian Smith, truck manager at Volvo Truck and Bus said: “We have seen a significant demand for this type of engine in the 13-litre programme. We believe it will be appreciated especially by those customers who demand high torque output at low engine speed like, for example, when driving off-road or in arduous distribution conditions.”
The new D13A 360hp engine meets Euro 4 emission standards, using SCR exhaust gas after-treatment. The engine is available with either the Volvo 9-speed, 14-speed, I-shift automated or Powertronic automatic transmission. The first 360hp D13A engine will be available to order from February 2006 and in production from April.
