After pioneering the use of refrigerated double-deck trailers with moving floors, food logistics leaders Reed Boardall now have one of the largest fleets in the UK.
The Yorkshire-based temperature controlled food distributor worked with Gray & Adams in 2000, to develop a double-decker that would maximise pallet accommodation and immediately ordered five of them. The specially designed trailers have been so successful that Reed Boardall’s fleet of double-deckers now stands at 24.
Tom Cassells, managing director of Reed Boardall Transport, says: “We have increased our transport capacity but not our fleet size which remains at 160 trailers. The double-deck trailers provide the right solution for major retailers and for food manufacturers who need to move large amounts of product from their premises on a daily basis. By moving 40 pallets per load in the double decks, rather than 26 on a single deck, we are keeping our number of journeys to a minimum.”
Based at Boroughbridge on the A1 (M) Reed Boardall is the UK’s largest shard-user logistics provider for the frozen food industry and is the only single site consolidator for supermarkets, wholesalers and food service suppliers.
