It’s just over two years since I was sitting in the Supply Chain Standard offices just off Oxford Street in London watching van after van full of riot police pull up just outside the building to be ready for the rioting that seemed to be taking place every night. Unfortunately, the police were not there when rioters broke into the Sony DADC distribution centre in Enfield.
The building was set alight and burned to the ground complete with its entire contents. Astonishingly, the company was back in operation within days using temporary facilities while it rebuilt the distribution centre.
How it managed to create a state of the art facility in record time is an inspirational story and you can hear all about it at Supply Chain Standard’s 1-2-1 Supply Chain Summit which takes place at the London Metropole on 3rd October.
Natasha Tyrrell, UK programme director at Sony DADC, will talk about the detailed evaluation of the entire supply chain that was undertaken and the process of building the new state of the art fulfilment centre on the existing site with special attention to partner and customer needs.
And that is just one of the presentations. Markus Frise of Tesco will look at developing agile responses to meet changing demand, while Blaine Tookey of BP International will focus on using technology to drive improvements and reduce complexity in the supply chain.
The keynote will be delivered by Richard Broadhead, head of supply chain at Mitchells & Butlers, who will look at supply chain innovation: delivering competitive advantage.
