Microlise, the supply chain systems integrator, has been selected to deliver a multi-million pound contract which will streamline the transport and delivery operations for the Co-operative Group.
The system is based on the Microlise Fleet & Distribution portfolio of solutions and uses Intermec mobile data terminals in the cab. It will be installed in some 1,000 delivery vehicles operating from 17 distribution centres which supply approximately 3,000 Co-op stores throughout the UK.
It will provide operational personnel with real-time vehicle position data, delivery schedule adherence and proof of delivery together with continuous temperature monitoring of the trailer. In addition it will provide drivers with last mile satellite navigation and monitor the way the vehicle is being driven using soft telematics.
The contract, which includes an initial five year support and maintenance agreement, will be delivered through Co-operative Retail Logistics, the delivery arm of the Co-Operative Group, which provides a central distribution service to all Co-op societies. It will be implemented on a depot by depot basis over the coming months.
Nadeem Raza, managing director for Microlise said: “We are proud to have been selected by the Co-operative Group for delivery of this major contract and are confident it will deliver significant business benefits through real-time visibility of their operations and optimum use of their delivery assets.”
