British Airways has extended its relationship with the leading logistics specialist Gist, to manage the receipt, handling and despatch of all of its in-flight retail (IFR) products.
The contract to manage British Airways’ IFR operation, builds on Gist’s successful 12 year partnership with British Airways, handling its other in-flight service products.
From June 2006, the IFR logistics team will be based at Gist’s 116,000 sq ft warehouse near Heathrow and will work closely with the 70 Gist staff that control warehouse operations for British Airways’ in-flight services, doubling the size of the current operation.
Gist currently manages the stocking and despatch of British Airways in-flight provisions, such as wines, spirits, minerals, cutlery, blankets and catering trolleys to all British Airways catering stations worldwide. Mike Flynn, business solutions director at Gist, said: “We are delighted to be expanding our service to British Airways. The addition of the In-flight Retail contract is testimony to the strength of our team and our partnership with British Airways.”
Peter Hough, senior manager of British Airways In-flight Planning and Logistics said: “Having had a long and successful relationship with Gist we felt that they were ideally placed to support our ongoing commitment to supplier rationalisation while maintaining and improving the customer experience.”
