Protek-dor, the UK transport security specialist, has launched a range of Trailergard devices.
The Trailergard range is the company’s latest step in providing a comprehensive security service to the transport industry and has been developed to help battle the increasing risk of road freight crime.
Manufactured from high-quality stainless steel, the devices cannot be cut by bolt cutters and may be used with a security seal to instantly show any attempts of break-in. Trailergards are available for any lock and include a hasp and staple design with drill-resistance barrels providing a permanent locking system.
The TruckPol Annual Report 2005 highlights trailer thefts in Britain as an emerging trend in road freight crime. Last year a total of 3,117 road crimes were reported in the UK, accumulating a loss of over £59 million in load value.
One company detailed losing £3.7 million from a single trailer break-in. The report points to the lack of trailer security as a cause of this rising trend stating: “As so few operators appear to be using any form of trailer security, it is relatively straightforward to drive around an industrial area until a suitable target is identified, hitch up to it and drive off.”
Debbie Jones, director of Protek-dor, comments: “Increasing road crime has a number of detrimental effects on the transport industry. Aside from the issue of driver safety and financial loss, haulage companies also rely on the confidence their clients have in their ability to secure and deliver the load.
