EWS has secured a new track access contract with Network Rail, providing guaranteed access to the rail network until the end of 2015.
Keith Heller, EWS chief executive said: “This long-term contract is a milestone in achieving significant growth in freight by rail. Extensive work by teams at Network Rail, the Office of Rail Regulation and EWS, have produced an agreement that will give confidence to customers, investors and other stakeholders.”
“Based on the standard contractual clauses incorporated into all freight operators’ contracts the agreement gives EWS permission to use the entirety of the rail network enabling it to meet its agreements with customers. This is the longest track access agreement ever held by EWS and will help us to build freight traffic within the UK and also to and from Europe”.
