Suttons Transport Group is the first UK logistics service provider to become a signatory to the European Road Safety Charter.
The Charter recognises the commitment of organisations in EU member states to undertake “concrete actions” to reduce the number of road traffic accidents.
Suttons, who has twice won the ‘Motor Transport Safety in Operation Award’, says that it has developed a further action plan as its commitment to the Charter. This plan will focus on ensuring the continued safety of its drivers and others in the wider community who could be affected by their actions. The current training programme for Suttons 400 drivers is being developed to ensure drivers have a greater awareness of road risks and teach better driving techniques.
Suttons Group managing director, Andrew Palmer said: “Suttons is strategically committed to improving road safety and through the European Charter, we will actively contribute… by implementing concrete actions, measuring their effectiveness and sharing our results.”
