Freightliner Group has launched a new subsidiary, Freightliner Maintenance.
It has taken over the assets and staff of LNWR’s former Leeds Midland Road depot, together with field engineering support in Scotland and the South East. FML will operate as a separate entity dedicated to the repair and maintenance of traction and rolling stock.
The Midland Road depot will be used for scheduled maintenance and repairs of the Freightliner Heavy Haul (FHH) fleet of locomotives. FHH will continue to use LNWR facilities at Crewe for tyre turning and additional traction maintenance.
Tim Shakerley, engineering director, Freightliner said: “This acquisition is a major vote of confidence in the team which has maintained the FHH fleet of locomotives over the last four years. Its establishment will give Freightliner a stable maintenance provider at a time when the freight sector of railway maintenance has seen particular volatility.”
The existing maintenance relationships will be Turner Rail and Marcroft Engineering are unaffected.
