NAI Fuller Peiser’s planning application for Hutchison Ports to extend the Port of Felixstowe has received permission from the Secretary of State. The project has an estimated direct construction cost of £191m and will create over 1,600 jobs in the region.
The scheme creates approximately 1km of quay (making a total of nearly 4km of dedicated deepwater container quay at Felixstowe) and will increase handling capacity of the port from 3.72m TEU to 5.6m TEU after 2010. Hutchison has also committed to fund the upgrade of the rail freight network between Felixstowe and Doncaster.
