The materials handling world was saddened by the passing of industry stalwart Bill Phipps, who died peacefully on Sunday 26 March.
Bill Phipps recently received a standing ovation at this year’s FLTA Awards, where he received a Lifetime Achievement Award. His career in the fork lift industry goes back as far as 1946, when he worked with Coventry Climax for 34 years.
Richard Baxter, the president of the FLTA, presented the award and said: “How can you quantify the achievement and contribution of someone who has worked so hard for so long?”
Baxter went on to say: “It’s been said that Bill has hydraulic fluid flowing in his veins, and the words ‘fork lift truck’ written through him like the lettering in a stick of rock!”
