Freight traffic on UK roads has fallen 1.1 per cent, according to national statistics published by the Department for Transport.
The DfT said that generally, traffic in Great Britain grew by an estimated 0.2 per cent between 2004 and 2005, which was less than estimated.
The findings show that overall, the number of goods vehicle (excluding light vans) operating on UK roads, fell by 1.1 per cent.
The use of light vans increased, by an estimated 2.9 per cent in the same period.
