Roadways Container Logistics has opened the new Birmingham Intermodal Freight Terminal (BIFT), with the arrival of the first train from Southampton.
RCL says that the 25 acre site at Birch Coppice Business Park will provide strategically placed loaded container storage and lifting close to Midland’s motorway network. RCL also says that the ‘common-user facility is apart of a multi-million pound investment, which will allow customers to avoid high cost quay rent, will help facilitate ‘on time’ container deliveries and will enable rail operators to enhance their services.
The new terminal is expected to handle around eight trains per day, between each of the major container ports. The site will also function as an operating base and central hub for 50 liveried RCL vehicles.
