Baylis Logistics has installed the MAN telematics system across its entire fleet.
The system works by alerting the company’s transport control room of a vehicle’s location and of any potential problems en-route. It also monitors fuel consumption and driver performance.
All vehicles feature an in-cab interactive voice system to monitor order progress and provide effective communication. Proof of delivery is confirmed via a secure web site. Thomas van Mourik, managing director of Baylis Logistics, said: “The telematics system is a key part of maintaining and developing services that offer real benefits and create value throughout the supply chain.”
Baylis recently took delivery of nearly 60 vehicles which were specified to include the tracking system.
MAN has won a follow-on to its contract with the MoD. lt will supply 2,077 trucks to support the main order for 5,200 trucks which MAN won in March 2005. The total value of the order has increased to some £1.11bn.
