Eddie Stobart is set to launch a dedicated rail freight service, for Tesco. The service will commence on 19th September 2006 and will be the start of a three-year contract, moving consumer goods from Daventry to Tesco’s Livingston distribution centre in Scotland.
Eddie Stobart will collect goods every week day from sites in the Daventry area, then deliver them to Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT) where they will be loaded onto the train bound for Grangemouth Rail Terminal near Glasgow. The service will also be repeated in reverse each day.
Eddie Stobart says that the new service will replace over 13,000 truck journeys each year, equivalent to 180,000 freight tonnes being removed from the road each year
