Univeyor is installing a state-of-the-art case conveyor for Direct Wines’ 180,000 sq ft mail-order distribution centre in Theale, near Reading.
The site handles over four million cases of wine each year and will be converting from a paper-based system to an SAP-driven voice picking system. The system supplies empty cases to specific locations around the warehouse, allowing pickers easiest possible access.
It then carries completed cases from the picking areas to be sealed, labelled and despatched.
Melvyn Brown, general manager of the facility, said: “Maximum productivity is a key feature of the new distribution centre and the installation of Univeyor’s automated system will ensure that we can achieve that.”
