Aldi is fitting Michelin A2 Energy tyres to its fleet of 17 Scania tractors at its Chelmsford distribution centre.
Following a 12 month trial the fuel consumption of a 38-tonne Scania tractor unit was tested, resulting in a 2.3 per cent fuel saving.
The amount of fuel used with Michelin’s Energy tyres was measured on a weekly basis and compared against previous figures.
David Pye, transport manager, Aldi said: “Based on the strength of the results we are now rolling out the fitment of Energy tyres across the fleet, with a projected saving of approximately 5 per cent per vehicle, once the trailers are fitted with Energy tyres too.”
