National Grid has renewed its fleet contract with Ford. The new three-year contract will see Ford providing the electricity and gas provider with 3,650 vans.
Around 800 Ford Connect vehicles and 1,150 Transit 280 vans will provide a first response service for emergencies and maintenance, with around 1,300 Transit 350 models being used for follow-up work.
The company’s recent fleet review involved a full European tender process, including commercial analysis of a number of manufacturers in terms of availability of service dealers, spares, back-up and total cost of ownership.
The National Grid engineers usually work from home and the vehicles, which are purchased outright, are expected to cover up to 18,000 miles a year.
