Replacing a conventional sideloader with a multi-directional LPG-powered Sidetracker has enabled Durapipe UK to increase capacity at its bulk storage site near Cannock, Staffordshire, by over 20 per cent.
Durapipe UK is a leading manufacturer of performance thermoplastic pipework systems used around the world. The products are manufactured in lengths up to ten metres at the Cannock factory, before being stored in bulk at an external storage site or in a warehouse for small order picking.
The conventional sideloader, previously used in the bulk storage area, required 6m-wide aisles to handle the products. The manoeuvrability of the new Sidetracker, particularly its ability to travel in any direction or rotate on the spot, has enabled aisle widths to be reduced to three metres, allowing some 20 per cent more product to be accommodated and the truck to turn round within the aisles.
The truck is suitable for permanent outside use, having an LPG engine rated at 43kW and an all-weather cab with heating and cooling. It measures 2100 wide x 2650mm long and has a forward-facing seat to give the driver a comfortable, convenient driving position and a good forward view.
Over-size forks measuring 1050mm long have been fitted. Fork spread can be adjusted quickly and easily between 200mm and 2350mm by the driver in the cab, increasing safety when very long loads are being handled.
