Staff at JJB’s Martland distribution centre have gone on strike, following a dispute over pay and the company’s bonus scheme.
The GMB also claims that JJB’s management is working with local recruitment agencies in an illegal attempt to break the strike.
Some 266 workers at the Wigan depot went on strike yesterday and are planning further action on 2nd November.
Staff rejected a three per cent pay increase and are now seeking a higher basic rate for all workers in the warehouse and equal access to JJB’s bonus scheme.
Sandra Blight, GMB Lancashire region organiser said that she was disappointed in the way that staff were not being listened to.
At the time of going to press, JJB has not yet commented on the allegations.
The Martland Park, Wigan warehouse distribution depot supplies the merchandise to all 430 JJB Shops around the UK.
Last year a strike was narrowly averted over problems with the pay system after a last minute offer was accepted by a very narrow margin.
