CitySprint has won a two-year contract with the National Laboratory Service, which carries out environmental testing for The Environment Agency.
CitySprint will deliver internal mail as well as samples of natural water, soil and waste. These will be collected from the Environment Agency’s regional depots and delivered in refrigerated vehicles to one of five labs around the country.
CitySprint will offset the carbon it produces in the fulfilment of the contract by investing in carbon reduction technology. And it is joining the agency’s long-term biodiesel project, which will see the courier testing a high blend biodiesel (B22) in its fleet.
CitySprint said the vehicles would not have to be adapted in any way and would run constantly on the new fuel. The agency wants to prove that B22 is viable as an alternative fuel from both an environmental and economic point of view.
