Hill Hire has ordered 480 MAN trucks ranging from 7.5 to 44 tonnes.
The trucks are fitted with EGR Euro 4 engines and MAN TipMatic automatic gearboxes. The truck and trailer rental specialist has also optioned a further 420 MAN chassis for 2007.
Fleet director, David Barlow, said: “This is a real commitment from Hill Hire to EGR technology in major sectors of our market, and I would not be surprised to see orders for these trucks exceed the 1,000 mark this year.”
He said that SCR technology was more suited to larger fleet operators who were better placed “to invest in the complexities of AdBlue bunkering and management at their depots. We believe own account fleets and smaller operators, who are certainly no less professional, will prefer the far simpler operating benefits of the EGR offering.”
These are the first MAN vehicles to enter service with Hill Hire since January 2003.
