FastShip and Triangle Management Services are inviting bids for the 1.3 million tonnes of cargo space on the proposed JetShip, a high-speed freight service between Philadelphia and Cherbourg.
FastShip says its new JetShip service will target an untapped middle-market that exists in the shipping industry. It reckons that it can compete with both air and sea freight, with a delivery time that is comparable to standard air freight at half the cost.
The JetShip is planned to carry about 10,000 tonnes at speeds of 40 knots even in severe weather.
The window for bids closes on 31 March 2007, while the project is expected to begin in 2010.
