UPS has ordered 27 Boeing 767-300ER freighters but said that the order is not related to its on-going review of the Airbus A380.
The company saw growth of 12 per cent in the international package delivery market in 2006.
The freighters will be used on routes to and from Europe and Latin America as well as on lanes within Asia and Europe.
The planes will be delivered between 2009 and 2012.
UPS has not disclosed the value of the contract.
