Palletways has bought its Italian operation after licensing it out in 2002.
It now hopes to develop an integrated pan-European pallet network .
It is also building a 15,000 sq m hub in Bologna which will handle deliveries across Italy and to other parts of Europe. It is expected to be fully operational early next year.
Chief executive James Wilson said: “In addition to the new hub development, we are in the process of linking internationally the Palletways Italia operation with our other networks, covering the Benelux region, Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland and the UK, to enable cross border deliveries between Italy and these countries.”
The Italian network will soon be integrated with the Spanish operation, which was launched last year.
Roberto Rossi, formerly chief of TNT Logistics, will become chairman and Bernardo Cammarata will become general manager of Palletways Italia.
