The UK operations of JE Bernard and SDV International Logistics are merging. Bernard will merge into SDV’s global network to enable it to operate on a global platform.
Mark Ellis, commercial director for Bernard, said: “The message that has gone out to our people is that this is an extremely exciting development. We’ve previously had a reliance on overseas partners and agents.”
SDV, the transport and logistics division of the Bolloré Group, has been seeking to develop a stronger position within the UK. The merged operations will employ around 500 staff based at 17 locations including six purpose built freight terminal facilities.
Ed Kimber, Bernard chairman and chief executive, said the business needed a global platform to respond to changing demands. The merger would give it global reach and enhanced capacity.
