Sainsbury’s has taken delivery of forty 3.5 tonne Mercedes reefers and has another fifty on order. The dual compartment box body vans will be used for home deliveries.
The supermarket is also trialling an electric van for inner city deliveries.
Express Parcel Services is running a fleet of 23 new-generation Mercedes Sprinters. Most are high-roofed, medium length 311CDIs, although the line-up also includes three long-bodied units. All are fitted with Safe T Bar rear bumpers and steps, lifetime tracking systems and rear parking sensors and are fully ply-lined. They have joined a Mercedes-dominated fleet of 80 vans, based at depots in Cannock, Leeds, Lanarkshire and Wrexham as well as the company’s head office in Middleton, Greater Manchester.
