Toshiba Europe has increased the throughput at its Regensburg plant in Germany by 5,500 units per day using an RFID system which has helped remove warehouse congestion.
Previously, pallets of 36 laptops were brought in by truck and stored, handling staff then scanned each individual laptop, resulting in 36 scans per pallet.
The use of RFID has allowed the entire content of each pallet to be scanned and booked in a single movement before it is stored for further processing.
Toshiba Europe configures the laptops destined for the EMEA region. In 2006, the average throughput increased from 9,500 to 15,000 units per day with a capacity of 30,000 units per day.
