Wolseley has opened a 350,000 sq ft distribution centre in Leamington Spa comprising two buildings, linked by an enclosed bridge.
The £42.2m facility is the centrepiece of Wolseley’s £100m investment in its UK logistics network and will be used primarily to supply products to its existing regional distribution centres, in Yorkshire, Worcester, and Milton Keynes.
Similar high-tech distribution centres will be at the heart of the plumbing and building materials supplier’s international expansion strategy. There are two RDCs planned in Lancashire and the South of England.
When working at planned capacity, the new distribution centre will employ up to 250 staff and operate 147,000 storage points, enabling an annual throughput of 65 million product units.
Opening the NDC, Wolseley group chief executive Chip Hornsby said: “We want to transform customer expectations of service in this industry, by providing both the widest range of products on the market, combined with unrivalled levels of availability throughout the UK.”
