Open Projects has developed a software solution to help retailers better manage the distribution of magazines and newspapers. Currently, one third of all UK magazines delivered to retail outlets have to be sent back to the supplier unsold, costing around £800 million per year.
The software specialist, in partnership with Rascal Solutions, a company set up by magazine wholesalers to monitor sales and return in supermarkets, has sold the system to retailers such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
The Rascal system integrates mobile hand held terminals with a central database to create real-time accurate information with instant web-based access and alerts for all levels of the supply chain. This improves the visibility and efficiency of retailer supply chains, while reducing costs.
