gm2 Logistics provides warehousing and logistics services for two of the UK’s largest paper merchants, McNaughton Paper Group and Premier Paper Group. Through distribution centres at Coalville in Leicestershire and Erith in Kent, gm2 holds more than 37,000 tonnes of paper, board and plastics for the printing, graphic arts and office stationery markets, for rapid despatch to customers throughout the UK.
Haydn Costin, project manager at gm2, says that when it came to selecting a new WMS, HighJump Warehouse Advantage from 3M gave confidence that the required functionality could be achieved. “In practice, we have seen that the system is inherently flexible and can be tailored quickly and easily. Moreover, because changes are made without affecting the core software, the system remains stable and is readily adapted to meet future requirements.”
This flexibility allowed the implementation team, comprising 3M support staff and an in-house team of five from gm2, to recreate much of the look and feel of gm2’s legacy system without incurring excessive additional effort or expense.
Any WMS migration project presents an extensive set of requirements that the new system must meet, but the interface to the host enterprise system was of prime importance to gm2.
“We had invested a great deal of time and effort to create a bespoke interface platform between the legacy WMS and the host system,” says Costin. “We were very concerned that the new interface would be able to support every data type we had created. The HighJump team were able to expand and improve the interface in several ways.”
