Culina Logistics is set to bring 350 jobs to Suffolk if plans for a 191,000 sq ft distribution facility at developer Carisbrooke’s Haverhill Business Park are approved.
A planning application to build the warehouse has been submitted for a 12.36-acre site. The building will feature 25 dock-level loading bays and have space to accommodate 75 trucks and trailers. The distribution facility will also have 15,000 sq ft of office space.
This latest development is part of the company’s aggressive expansion plans and is strategically located to meet organic growth from customers and target new business from both the UK and Europe.
The new site will feature the latest ‘state-of-the-art’ warehouse management system to constantly monitor and update stock levels to ensure maximum efficiency and maintain the company’s 99.995 per cent pick accuracy.
Rien Brakel, managing director of Culina, said: “The new site continues our strategic business development plan to establish Culina as the market leader in high-quality chilled logistics services in the UK.
“The location fits perfectly as a large percentage of our clients’ manufacturing facilities are based on the continent. It also enables us to manage deliveries in the south east of England more efficiently.”
When the new site becomes fully operational in August 2008, Culina will employ in excess of 1,100 people in the UK.
As with the existing facilities, the new warehouse will operate 24-hours a day, servicing up to 450 delivery points within the retail and wholesale sectors.
Haverhill Business Park straddles the Suffolk and Essex border and has 28 acres remaining for mixed-use developments including industrial warehousing and offices.
