GlaxoSmithKline picks Healthcare for travel vaccines
Healthcare Logistics has won the contract to distribute GlaxoSmithKline travel health vaccines to GP surgeries, hospitals and pharmacists throughout England and Wales.
GlaxoSmithKline Travel Health switched to specialist health care distribution company, Healthcare Logistics, as the company’s national chill-chain distribution network enabled GSK to use recyclable packaging for its vaccine deliveries. Healthcare Logistics delivers direct to all GPs, retail pharmacists, hospitals and nursing homes on a next day basis using its own fleet of 80 bespoke temperature controlled vehicles.
Previously, GlaxoSmithKline Travel Health vaccines were distributed in polystyrene cool boxes, which maintained the correct temperature, but were less beneficial for the environment. The vaccines will now be packed in cardboard boxes, which are both made of recycled material and easy to recycle.
Healthcare Logistics will distribute all GlaxoSmithKline Travel Health vaccines in its own temperature-controlled vans, which are maintained between 2-8 degrees Celsius, ensuring a consistent internal temperature. This is in compliance with the stringent regulations governing the packing, storage and delivery of vaccines.
Gary Walsh, supply chain director of GlaxoSmithKline says: “Our goal at GSK is to deliver vaccines to our customers promptly with minimum fuss, and Healthcare Logistics will be an important partner in helping us achieve this aim.”
