Electric vehicle maker Tanfield says it now has orders for more than 600 trucks in 2008 and is ramping up production at its Washington factory to meet demand.
The company has more than doubled sales to £36.8m in the first half of 2006 while profits increased three-fold to £5.4m reflecting the growing interest in zero-emission vehicles.
It expects capacity to reach 30 electric vehicles a week at the beginning of 2008.
Tanfield has also formed a partnership with Ford for electric vehicles for US market with production due to in December.
