French hypermarket retailer, Leclerc Lecasud, has started using voice activation in its dry goods warehouse on a personal digital assistant using the Aldata GOLD vocal module.
As a result, the voices of the preparation operators no longer have to be initially recorded for identification purposes, saving time and costs for temporary and seasonal personnel. In addition, the multi-mode voice and data functions of the Motorola WT4090 mobile terminal provide preparation operators with one unique terminal to carry out different tasks alternating between voice and ‘traditional’ barcode reading.
The PDA enables multiple data retrieval and data capture elements such as bar-code, RFID, voice, keyboard and so on. “The availability of the PDA in a voice environment allows a much greater choice of terminal,” said Alain Robeau, Leclerc’s support services manager.
