Pet food company, Nestlé Purina PetCare has chosen Wincanton to manage its Specialist Packing Unit. The five year contract will see Wincanton manage high volumes of production from a 150,000 sq ft site at Wisbech.
Robotic pickers and palletisers are use to pack the various product lines into multi-packs ahead of their delivery to retailers.
Wincanton will store base product and export finished goods from a satellite store in Wisbech. This store also manages the storage of dry raw materials for Nestlé Purina’s own manufacturing operation.
The award of the contract will also create synergies with Wincanton’s existing relationship with.
Wincanton has managed the national distribution centre for Nestlé Purina the pet food manufacturer for the past seven years from its Hams Hill site.
Patrick Sullivan, co-packing contract manager at Nestlé Purina, said: “The nature of our product means that we need to have total confidence that our products are picked, wrapped and packed intelligently.”
