The Olympic Delivery Authority is looking for bidders for an East London Logistics Centre.
The authority said it was seeking pre-qualification submissions from organisations “capable of establishing and operating an off site logistics centre to support and maximise the integration of the materials logistics strategy for the construction of the Olympic Park”.
This logistics centre will be used for:
* cross docking of materials from road based vehicles onto sustainable transport modes (principally water and/or rail)
* pre-arrival security checks
* vehicle marshalling
* materials storage
The anticipated throughput capacity for the centre will be 50 per cent of the total number of road deliveries to the Olympic Park. At peak an estimated 150 deliveries a day will enter the logistics centre.
The project will also include options to extend the contract for a further two phases, namely:
Phase two – Games time (July 2011 to September 2012)
Phase three – legacy (October 2012 to December 2013)
The authority said the objectives and operations to be undertaken during phases two and three would be further defined over the coming months.
