Wincanton has taken over Swales Haulage for £5.3m strengthening its position in the UK building services market.
Wincanton said Swales Haulage was one of the top five businesses within the building services market, operating from 11 locations across the UK. The acquisition will strengthen Wincanton’s position in the sector and follows the integration of RDL into the business in October 2006.
Gordon Scott, managing director of Wincanton’s Industrial business unit said: “The acquisition of Swales is another exciting development for Wincanton. Over the past twelve months, our business in the building products sector has gone from strength to strength as companies seek increased supply chain efficiency and the support of a partner with national capability. The addition of Swales’ infrastructure and customer operations will enhance our offer to the market and bring attractive opportunities for further growth.”
* Wincanton’s underlying operating profit rose 19.2 per cent in the first half to £25.5m on sales up 10.6 per cent to £1.03bn.
Chief executive Graeme McFaull said: “We are successfully targeting growth opportunities in our focus markets, both organically and through infill acquisitions.
We remain encouraged by this further period of strong profit and cash flow performance and by the new business momentum being sustained, or developing, across all of our operations. We expect the full year to be another year of strategic and operational progress for Wincanton.”
